Hi,
the gill attachement is slightly variable, but not (really) free.
German page says: " am Stiel tief ausgebuchtet und mit Zähnchen, oft fast frei erscheinend",

My own pictures show all the possibilities.
"tief ausgebuchtet und mit Zähnchen" = notched
"ausgebuchet" = adnexed
"gerade angewachsen" = adnate

Sometimes (even in cross section) the gills look free, but are narrowly adnexed.
If you separate the stipe from the cap, you should see some tiny little remnants of the gills at the uppemost top of the stipe.
If gills are really free, you can more easily separate the stipe from the cap.
